Anyone who is interested in just how differently women of all classes and cultures lived day to day, were raised by their own families and how they raised their own, and the cultural constraints that were the reality of women's lives prior to the mid-1960's, should read this book. It should be required reading for young women today to appreciate, and defend, their freedoms today.

Despite the date of this writing it is quite unfortunate some of the behavior towards women is fundamentally the same today.
