I loved the first book in the trilogy but it had to be simple to some degree to avoid getting bogged down in hundreds of pages of back story and world building. It was still a great book and a great story but it also had the "A New Hope" feel. In this second book the characters are already known so the story can be more complex and the introduction of even more characters makes the world of Space Lore feel fully developed. I LOVED the object of the Excalibur that the book's title is taken from. When you hear "the Excalibur" you think of a sword. Ha! Not so fast. The Excalibur in this story will make your head explode with how cool it is. I was going to read another book before starting the third book in this series but after the way this one ended I have to keep going right now.Product details

The description of this excellent book,”… Arthurian legend meets Star Wars…” hooked me.
Since I love both King Arthur and Star Wars, I hoped this would be a winner. It was.
If you’re a fan of Space Opera, read this. If you love Arthurian legends, read this.
The plot is quite original; I think this mix of two different story lines works.
I got a free copy of the novel.
For me the first book ended in a way that didn't readily say "sequel". The Excalibur ends in a cliffhanger. Be prepared because you'll want to start on book three right away. I know I did.
Overall I didn't like this book as much as the first. The characters personalities were established in book one. If you didn't read that one (The Green Knight) you probably will miss quite a bit when the different characters interact. To me this book read like one long lead up to the end battle. I found the story engaging. The mystery of the Excalibur was intriguing. A much different twist on the Excalibur story than I was expecting. In a good way.

WOW! Lacking the vocabulary and writing skill of Chris Dietzel, that's about the best way I can describe my reaction to The Excalibur. I have read everything he has written to date and never cease to be amazed at Dietzel's talent as a storyteller. Regardless of the subject matter, he excels.
As the second book in his Space Lore series, The Excalibur can be read alone or out of sequence, but my recommendation would be to read the books in order - don't take a chance on overlooking a previous book and missing out on any of his fascinating and well-crafted tales. I am already well into the third book of the series and anxiously awaiting whatever he writes in the future.
Great potential to be made into movies.
The Excalibur (Space Lore #2) by Chris Dietzel follows The Green Knight but this book can be read as a stand alone. The author is great at making sure the reader is aware of anything you need to know. According to the book, six years has past and now war has broke out again. Again, this author shows how masterfully he can make fantasy and sci-fi battles and futuristic life feel so real. Our gal Vera is back and she is trying to get the impossible, the encased spaceships called Excalibur. No one knows who put them in a large rock in space or how, but the ships are very advanced and anyone who has tried to get them has died. They are rigged to blow up. Vera needs these ships for the war, their ships aren't ready and they are outnumbered. These books should be the next Star Wars movies! So many twists and turns. Love these books! I received this book for a honest review and it in no way effected my review or rating.
I enjoyed the first in this series, but I found this one slow, frustrating and ultimately an awful book with a terrible cliffhanger ending.
This book was even better than the first in the series. It isn't often I read a book in one day, but I did with this one and I am anxious to read the third one in the series. It is action packed, keeps you on the edge of your seat and is easy to read.
